Growth Models
The Growth Model is a reflection of student growth beyond proficiency. This model of assessing allows for gifted students to have the opportunity for further growth because they are the students that are often left behind in the general education classroom when the teacher is focusing on those students who are borderline.
The Growth model is ideal when there are formal assessments (ie. End-of-Grade tests) in place. For classes that are considered to be "non-tested" classes, keeping data on gifted students is essential in showing their growth over the course of the school year.
When it comes to showing growth of a gifted student, the Growth Model will help show the actual growth in learning of the student. Teachers will need to have collected multiple assessment data so they can then modify their teaching to the individual students. Overall, this model is driven by student data.
